ARTICLES
'A', or 'an' and 'the' are articles. There are the definite article and the definite article
THE INDEFINITE ARTICLE
'A' or 'an' is called the indefinite article because it does not refer to any particular person or thing that we are talking about.
a) 'A' is used before words beginning with consonant sounds.
Examples
b) ‘An’ is used before words beginning with vowel sounds
(a, e, i, o, u ) and silent ‘h’.

‘The’ is the definite article because it refers to one particular person or thing that we are talking about.
Examples
The word ‘the’ is used before the “sun” because we are talking about a particular thing.
